New Format for the Show

With me moving, Micah and I have kicked around a few ideas for how to keep the Just Two Guys machine rolling forward. We've come up with a few options. Maybe you can help us decide.

1) Internet Radio Show (podcast)-This would likely be a biweekly or monthly show that we would conduct using either something like Gabcast or a podcast audio recorder with phone recording technology. Bonus here is that those of you who might like to catch up with us could listen while you're doing other things. Much different than watching a show. And I think we both kind of favor this solution.

2) Direct to Youtube Video Show-This would be significantly harder to pull off as it would require us to both film video 900 miles apart and splice it together for each show. May be doable, but do we have the time and energy.

3) Micah Finds a Replacement Host-In this scenario, Micah would simply replace me and move on with a new host. Given the state of affairs at Public Access these days, this may be easier said than done. The number of programs being taped at Access 4, coupled with cutbacks out there have made show tapings next to impossible to get. I'd be fully supportive if Micah decides to go this route.

4) We Suck and Never Should Have Been Allowed on Air in the First Place-Maybe you don't like us. That's cool, too. If you think we should just hang it up and leave the world alone, please let us know.

Voice your opinion by voting in the poll on the left hand side of your screen. Or drop us a comment.

I think you should do both 1 and 3.

Or option five, Micah moves with you and you do a show about Springfield airing from Virginia.

If not, I vote for number one.

I agree with blogfree--Micah and Amy, you're coming with us!

I agree with either. Althought I'd prefer option 5 as well. Thanks for the wonderful idea, BFS.

I'll fly out on weekends. Isn't that what Ann Curry does?

Don't talk to me about Ann Curry!

how about you use something like skype? then on one end you can either have a camera taping a live person and then the person over skype on a TV/Monitor or run some sort of screen capture software (camtasia) and just do it all on the computer.

Travis-

I've thought of trying the Camtasia thing. My boss lives and dies by Camtasia.

I think I lean toward the simplicity of a podcast just because I know I can do it. It's a case of feeling like I know I can do something lower-tech a hell of a lot better than I can do something higher-tech. And I love old-timey radio shows.

I don't know. There's a lot to consider.

Comment started yesterday night/this morning:

Hello... I woke up late (VERY late, quite unfortunately, but that's a different story). I was flipping channels, and came to Access 4, and saw a program, with two panelists, which I seem to possibly remember from before, but didn't know what it was.

Soon, the logo came on, and I could see that it was your show! I thought of your blog, and how I used to comment here (starting perhaps, two years ago, around this time - like in November/December 2006... or perhaps earlier). I was glad to see that later in that program, you mentioned your blog; however, I had forgotten that your template had changed... I think I was back here though, around the time of Barack Obama's running-mate announcement, of Joe Biden, which helped me somewhat-jump start my weblog (again), as I thought that, with the eyes of the whole country (and the Blogosphere) on our city, I would be remiss in not trying to be a part of it.

It was at that point, that I looked again at the Springfield, Illinois blogs, to see other people's first-hand coverage and perspectives.

I am glad that the Blagojevich situation has given us bloggers here in the [Illinois!] capital city another [national!] opportunity to present a unique perspective, on what everyone is talking about.

I remember, when I first found your blog, and out about your show, that I had noticed that the discussion (at least on the blog; I hadn't seen the television show) didn't have much on contemporary politics (that can be a refreshing lack, though, considering where we are, we're saturated with that stuff!! ;-). However, I then remember seeing an entry at this blog (with the prior [greenish] template; I hope all the archives - and comments - are still here) about the Topinka/Blagojevich gubernatorial race.

Last night may have been the second time I've caught your show, on television... I was glad that you talked about history; I didn't know about "Sangamo Town" (though I had heard of Clayville - what do you know about that?). When I heard about William Hamilton, I thought that I now need to add him to the Wikipedia (I know, I'm turning into a bigger computer g*ek - or something like that...) category "People from Springfield, Illinois." I saw that he is already in there.

Isn't it interesting how many people (aside from the usual suspects ;-) are from this city?

I was impressed with your program, and the format/themes that you used. I need to watch the prior episodes online.

Unfortunately, I once again am jammed up with a ton of things to get done, in a very-small amount of time. So, how about Option 5 (it has been working for me! ;-):
Don't move!

(After these many years, the city has become a part of me; and it seems that of those who do move away, a bunch of them end up coming back.

I hope you do as well.)
