Katie Couric, Nightly News Badger

Am I the only person who thought Katie Couric might leap across the room and rip Sarah Palin's throat out during the CBS News interview that made the rounds last week? Couric looked seriously infuriated with Palin at a couple of points. Just watch this clip within a clip to see what I mean. Look at the intensity in Katie Couric's eyes.

Palin's response was just mind-numbingly ignorant. It's interesting the spin that has been generated to suggest that somehow Couric is to blame for Palin's total ineptness. I'm no fan of K.C., but the fact that she was able to keep herself from blurting out "What the @#*& are you talking about????" shows more professionalism from her than I've ever witnessed in her career.

I've played that clip over and over, and I still have no idea what Van Palin said.

Boy, Jack Cafferty doesn't mince words does he? Was she glancing down at a cheat sheet the whole time, or was it just my imagination?

The biggest indictment of her incoherence was that Tina Fey used her response to KC's question about the bailout almost verbatim on SNL. When you become a parody of yourself, it's time to stop talking publicly.

Nancy, I just want to make clear that I'm not trying to defend Palin's ineptitude in any way, shape, or form. She is obviously a huge mess, and I would imagine her handlers are terrified of the upcoming debate. Yikes.

And yeah, Cafferty just really lets it rip in that clip.

No John, I didn't think you were defending her. I've been reading so much about this from so many sources, I just made a little leap from what you posted to what I was thinking. I've read several comments suggesting that Couric somehow backed her into an unfair corner.

Russ, I thought she was looking down a lot too, but obviously all that was scribbled were independant phrases like health care reform, trade, shore up the economy, taxpayers, trade, and job creation.

Hey! I think I just strung those all together more coherently than Palin did!!

Couric's sister Emily was a liberal democrat who represented Charlottesville in the Virginia legislature. Her family is one of the better known liberal families in Charlottesville. To Katie's credit as a journalist this never really gets thrown in her face or used to question her impartiality. So this probably says more about what an ignoramus Palin is in person if Katie let it affect her facial expression.

Here's what I am afraid to see. Palin interviewed by Anne Curry and Meredith Vieira. My guess is that interview would potentially end the word via a black hole created by their collective dimness. Those people worried about the particle collider had it all wrong, this is the real scare.

Oooh, good call, Travis. If you threw in Phil Collins, I would actually lose the will to live and my heart would just stop beating.
