Tired and Feathered!

I got back from a long weekend in Des Moines, Iowa at 1:30 AM on Monday morning. I hit the hay, got up early for work the next morning, and felt proud of my troopering through the day. Then last night, instead of staying in and going to bed, Aubrey and I went to see Atonement with Micah and Amy.

When the movie ended, we grabbed coffee at Starbuck's Parkway Point. By the time we returned home it was a little after 10. We were both exhausted and ready to turn in for the night. When we came into the rear entrance of the house, I noticed a few feathers on the floor. "What the hell is this?" I asked. The dogs gave each other a sidelong glance and sort of avoided looking at me.

We went to investigate and found the following:

It seems Idgie and Lucy decided to make a game of feather pillow tug-o-war while we were away. What's so weird about this is that we never have a problem with them chewing stuff while we're gone. We will leave the house and let them have the run of it. Occasionally we'll find a tissue torn up at the back door, which we've read is a dog's way of putting your scent near entrances so intruders will think you're around and be scared away. We've never had a problem with them chewing objects around the house. It wouldn't even have occurred to me that they would do this. They're pretty grown up dogs now, and it was just so extremely out of character for the dynamic duo. I guess that's why I was so disappointed.

Needless to say, we were exhausted and a wee bit overwhelmed by the monumental cleanup. Static electricity is not your friend when it comes to cleaning up piles of feathers.

hey, I forgot to tell you, I stopped by while you guys were gone and left a bunch of feathers on the floor. It took me almost 3 years to colect all of them from various places around the world. Tell the dogs sorry about them getting blamed, my bad.

Hey, thanks for clearing this up Travis. It makes a lot more sense to me that you would leave 3 years worth of leaves at my house than thinking my dogs did this.

Oh, and I've started coming down with some strange cough. Where exactly did you go to collect these feathers?
