Movie Geeks Club - This is Spinal Tap

Capital City Bar and Grill
Tuesday, June 26

7:00 pm - "The Otto Show" - The Simpson's

Attire: Casual Rock or whatever you happen to be wearing

This film is a mockumentary about the over-the-top lifestyle of a heavy metal band. For those of you who are not familiar with what a mockumentary is, think The Office. The whole movie is ad libbed so that the actors can react as if it were truly a documentary. It is a cult classic and is also considered to be one of the funniest movies in the history of American film. You may have to watch it several times to put it near the top of your list but it will eventually get there. Rob Reiner directed the film but he wrote it with Christopher Guest, Michael Mckean and Harry Shearer who also star in the film. Christopher Guest went on to and continues to write and direct improvised mockumentaries including Waiting for Guffman (community theatre), Best in Show (dog shows) and most recently For Your Consideration (Oscar hopefuls). He is curretnly working on a movie about condo board associations. He always includes his friends from Spinal Tap as well as a host of other actors like Fred Willard, Parker Posey, Catherine O'Hara, Ed Begley, Jr. and Eugene Levy.

John has also put together trivia with a special prize for the winner. We have done five movie nights thus far and they have all been very fun. I always look forward to it weeks in advance. We hope to see you there.

I have yet to attend an MGC screening, and I won't be able to tonight, either, but I'll put a reminder on my blog today for folks to smell the glove.

Great showing tonight guys. I'll wear my Movie Geeks shirt proudly.

I'll see you downtown on July 7 for the American Music Show. It's bound to be the best night of live music in Springfield this year.
